Oil and Ink paintings
Ultimately life is a collision of realities. People construct or project a reality in order to exist. My drawings are shapes and planes built upon the collision of objects in space. I present space as a massive construct in which realities combine and conflict, forming rules and expectations…only to be broken.
Concept sketches were always more compelling than a final painting: as the motion, energy, and raw structure of life is more interesting than a polished surface. Within the theme of structure, I touch on elements of satellite imagery, architectural drafts, and technical diagrams.
I build my drawings from small sketches adding layer after layer to create immense, detailed, abstract drawings. I push and pull patterns…finding randomness throughout a subconscious layering. The final product is a motion of energy all derived from simple lines. Life is simple as it is complex. While definitions and discoveries break life into clear segments, answers bring complexity never foreseen. I approach these pieces with simple lines and shapes, no color, to find the result a complex existence. The more I draw, the more simplicity touches upon insanity.
Creation is how I approach this overwhelming madness without any answers. Inspired by video game creators- who have uprooted a whole generation of children from life to a detached existence. I too create worlds to exist in but not to escape from. In order to move past the day to day, I view people and our space occupied from different perspective. Much like when one sees the ocean for the first time. Or when one views the earth from a plane: this is a realization of people and space- the orchestrated madness of how it all forms beauty. A large amount of people existing in a small space is the inevitable future for our civilization. The attempt to conceive how this works and appreciate the fundamental beauty of this is essential for a conscious progression of life, culture, and nature.
